The history of jumpstyle is truly captivating: the music genre and dance emerged simultaneously in Belgium in 1997. The name "JumpStyle" reflects the essence of the style—from the English "to jump." On the GoDance platform, you'll find lessons for this direction.
The nightclub crowd and electronic music fans embraced this modern movement. Soon, the first renowned dancers appeared: Patrick Jampen, who created a series of instructional masterclasses that taught nearly all jumpstylers how to dance.
As popularity grew, the style became known throughout Europe.
In Russia, this dance direction appeared in 2006. The first dancer communities formed mainly online.
Later, entire websites dedicated to this dance style emerged on the internet, where enthusiasts could find music, video tutorials, and simply connect. Then, gatherings of style fans began to take place across Russia.
The dance technique is straightforward: legs alternately swing forward and backward in various variations. Improvisation and creativity play a key role here.
In its short existence, Jumpstyle has branched into several types:
FreeStyle – incorporates a vast array of different tricks.
StarStyle – known for its smooth, broken movements.
OldSchoolJump – uses combinations from Freestyle and a basic foundation of 5 elements.
SideJump – allows movements forbidden in Freestyle, such as rotating the knee during turns.
TekStyle – consists of broken elements where dancers can touch their legs with their hands.
RealHardJump – focuses on the basics of Jumping, with trick elements taking a secondary role.
Each type can be performed solo, in a group, or as a duo. If performed collectively, all elements must be synchronized. An important rule is that dancers must not touch each other during the performance to avoid injuries and maintain the visual integrity.
JumpStyle is danced to various music styles, including trance, techno, and others—essentially styles with a fast tempo and clear drum beats.
This dance is not a stage performance; it can be danced anywhere: in the park, club, or on the sidewalk.
Today, JumpStyle is one of the most fashionable dance directions. The dance embodies key aspects of youth culture. By practicing the moves, representatives of this movement attract public interest, thus popularizing the style.
Jumpstyle is perfect for energetic and physically fit people.
