Many couples consciously skip their wedding dance, thinking they lack the skills. But that's a mistake. Anyone can perform it successfully and sensually. The key is to follow a few tips.
1. Defining Roles in the Dance.
Dance is more of a mental action than a physical one. It reveals what's going on in the couple's minds. The principles of structuring a dance are similar to everyday life and role distribution. The man takes the lead, the woman follows his direction. The bride should be support and grace. If you've correctly defined roles in life, the dance will naturally follow suit.
2. Watch the Timing.
The wedding dance is just the cherry on the cake. Don't overthink it or spend too much time. It's a bright, memorable show for guests, so keep it short. Otherwise, the magic fades and both guests and couple get tired.
3. Seek Help.
Don't leave your wedding dance to chance. Take at least a couple of lessons with an instructor. They'll explain everything from both psychological and technical standpoints, so you'll dance with purpose and awareness.
4. Experiment.
Don't limit yourself to one dance style. Try several—maybe even all. This will help you understand the differences and find what suits your partner's temperament.
5. Consider Hiring Two Choreographers.
A male choreographer can help the groom understand his role, while a female choreographer can design the bride's part.
6. The Music.
Take music selection seriously. It must match your tempo. Feel the rhythm and align it with your dance style.
7. Clothing and Shoes.
Start rehearsing in your wedding attire right away. Don't kid yourself—dancing in sneakers feels completely different from dancing in heels. Avoid surprises.
8. Mimic Improvisation or Actually Improvise.
The illusion of spontaneity adds lightness and grace, even to the most awkward dance.
9. Visit the Venue in Advance.
Check the space. You don't want to expect a perfect carpet only to find a step.
10. Focus on Your Partner.
A wedding dance only looks beautiful when it reflects genuine emotion. The audience is looking for love between partners, not dance perfection. During the performance, forget about counting beats or hand and foot positions. Just enjoy...
11. Stretch Ahead of Time.
Nothing gives your body grace and danceability like good flexibility. It's worth consulting a specialist a few times.
12. Maintain Eye Contact with Your Partner.
This point is similar to tip #10. But you can admire someone without eye contact—just not during your wedding dance. Eye contact is essential to make the dance meaningful.
