Learn the essential pole dance safety rules from GoDance: inspect equipment, warm up properly, avoid injuries with these 22 crucial tips for dancers of every level.
Today we'll cover the key safety points for using the pole.
1. Before starting a workout, check the condition of the pole to ensure it is working properly. If you notice any issues, inform your instructor.
2. Tie your hair in a bun or ponytail.
3. Wipe the pole with an alcohol-based cleaner or rubbing alcohol before and after each session. Dry the pole thoroughly.
4. If you notice smoke or a fire, stop training immediately and leave the room. Call the fire department.
5. If you decide to start pole dancing, get a medical check-up before beginning training.
6. Do not learn a new move or combination directly in stripper heels. Practice it barefoot first, then put on heels.
7. Do not stand near a pole that another dancer is using — this can lead to collisions and injuries.
8. Wash your hands with soap before training.
9. Dismount the pole gently. Do not jump onto straight legs, slam your heels, or drop onto your buttocks — this can cause injury.
10. When conducting dance classes in a studio, follow fire safety regulations.
11. Remove all accessories before training: rings, bracelets, earrings. They hinder a good grip and scratch the pole. They can also injure you.
12. Inform your instructor in advance of any chronic health conditions.
13. Do not use body lotion less than 24 hours before training, or your hands will slip down the pole. Use moisturizing or nourishing creams after training or on rest days.
14. Do not dance on a full stomach. We recommend drinking water after class.
15. If you get injured, tell your instructor immediately.
16. Warm up before training — it prepares all muscle groups, reducing the risk of injury.
17. Perform complex moves only with your instructor's permission.
18. Experiment, but make sure you have a secure grip with your leg, hand, neck, or shoulder when executing a trick. Don't be afraid to ask for a spot.
19. Do not attend class if you feel unwell.
20. Switching poles between static and spin modes should only be done by the teacher.
21. Do not eat or chew candy or gum during class.
22. When performing moves in stripper heels, be careful not to hit yourself or another dancer with the heel.
