Do you like dancing? Are you attracted to hip-hop and street styles? Or perhaps you've always dreamed of moving like dancers in Western music videos? Then let us introduce you to one of the most exciting hip-hop dance styles – Ragga Jam.
Ragga Jam is a dance of energy! A dance of self-expression! A dance of freedom!
Ragga Jam is a young dance style that combines hip-hop, Jamaican and Antillean dances, and elements of African dance. And all of this is performed to the infectious rhythms of reggae music. This dance can also be performed to hip-hop beats.
This style emerged in 1996 in France. It was created and patented by a young Frenchwoman, Lör Courtelmont. As a dancer and choreographer, she was searching for something new and unusual in dance – something that would appeal to women and girls, something to help them feel beautiful and sexy.
Something that would help unlock inner potential, reveal inner passion and charisma, without any hint of vulgarity or obscenity. That's how the idea of Ragga Jam was born.
At that time, reggae music was playing in clubs and on the streets, but no one danced to it. Lör loved street dance and decided to blend reggae music with hip-hop. But before introducing her creation to the world, she decided to travel to Jamaica – the birthplace of reggae dance – to conduct several masterclasses for the locals and compare styles.
Lör was very nervous; it was a different country with different people. How would they receive her idea? But her worries were unfounded – the trip was a success! The choreographer received widespread recognition, and the dance began to gain popularity worldwide!
Ragga Jam is a highly energetic, sexy, and youthful dance. It suits absolutely everyone and is gaining more and more popularity around the world. The dance has already conquered Europe and America. Its fiery moves are recreated on every continent, by people of all ages: women and men, young and old. The key is simply the desire to dance.
Although it was originally designed as female hip-hop, men also enjoy dancing it. Men are drawn to its rhythmic, sporty style, simple combinations, and the great workout it provides for all muscle groups. This dance can easily replace a gym session or sports.
The dance is so versatile and flexible that even a beginner, after just a few months of practice, can create their own Ragga Jam combinations to reggae or hip-hop rhythms.
Various waves, chest pops, hip moves, spins, and shakes – all set to Jamaican or hip-hop music – look sexy and mesmerizing.
The choreographic elements include chest and glute shakes, which provide an excellent workout for those muscle groups.
All movements are performed on slightly bent legs, which builds leg stamina and, over time, creates a beautiful hip line. And the fiery Jamaican reggae beats will lift your mood for the whole day.
