How to Master Strip Latin Dance
So, you're eager to start dancing Strip Latin. Your body wants to move, but reality doesn't match expectations yet. Here's a step-by-step guide to learn without disappointment.
So, you're already burning with desire to start dancing Strip Latin. Your body just wants to break into dance. But for now, you can't quite align the possibilities with your expectations. That means it's time for a step-by-step approach to learning Strip Latin. How can you help yourself master new dance techniques without getting frustrated? Let's explore.
— Work on your hips separately.
In Strip Latin, your whole body is involved, but there are areas that need special attention. First and foremost, your hips. Prepare yourself for the load they'll bear. Start doing squats, look up exercises for stretching the hip muscles. Here's one exercise: sit on the floor, heels together, pull your legs toward you, and lean your torso toward the floor. Also consider yoga to strengthen the pelvic area. It definitely won't hurt.
— Work on your arms.
Your arms should move smoothly and gracefully. How to practice that? First, add a bit of muscle mass to them so there's at least a hint of presence. Then, stretch from side to side. Raise your arms up, then lower them. Turn on music and try moving only your arms to it. A great practice is to try a shadow theater. Lights off, candles or a small lamp on. Move your arms and watch the shadow. It should flow smoothly.
— Try combining hips and arms.
Turn on music and practice. Also start actively using space. Move from side to side.
— Pay attention to flexibility.
A graceful body is almost always flexible too. Because everything is connected. What can you do to improve body flexibility? Stand straight, bend toward your legs, try to touch the floor, stretch. Keep your back straight. Then do the same in the opposite direction. Sit with legs extended straight. Raise your arms up and slowly lower them, trying to wrap your palms around your feet. Key: keep your back straight!
— Let's talk a bit about posture.
The secret to any dancer's success is proud and straight posture. You need to watch not the upper back, but the lower back. Everything comes from there. You can also stand against a wall, aligning your body with it. Our ancestors suggested another practice: girls used to train posture by carrying books on their heads without touching them with their hands.
Where to start training this method? From a sitting position. For the first time, one light book will do. Don't take Ozhegov's dictionary—if it falls, it'll hurt. After trying this, you'll probably realize it's not an easy task. It's advisable to practice every day for at least five minutes. When you feel confident, add more books, gradually stand up from the chair and walk. For an extra challenge, you can wear heeled shoes. Gradually increase the heel height.
— Work on your sense of balance.
A Strip Latin dancer may unexpectedly find themselves in an unusual position. To make this as easy and seamless as possible, improve your balance. Try yoga practices where you stand on one leg. The next method will not only develop your sense of balance but also make you more self-confident.
Climb onto an elevation. A table will do for starters, preferably with a broken leg. Try dancing or just standing on one leg. You won't loosen up properly right away. This practice might not even work. But if you manage to do it, you'll have no problems maintaining balance in the future.
— Learn to improvise.
At first, it's better to do movements in a clear sequence. Once you feel confident, boldly move on to improvisation. Strip Latin is built on that.
