Reggaeton is an incredibly energetic and lively style. When performing these dance routines, dancers experience an immense release of energy and positive emotions. They literally radiate happiness.
But the learning process itself is very meticulous and painstaking. Therefore, special attention should be paid to choosing clothes and shoes for training and rehearsals. As in any dance style, it is crucial that nothing hinders movement.
For rehearsals in the dance studio, you don't need to wear bright or stylish clothes. An ordinary, unremarkable wardrobe is sufficient. Avoid jeans and pants made of thick fabric, as they will 'bunch up' movements, which is unacceptable in reggaeton. After all, it's a dance of passion, and all movements should be light and sensual.
Moreover, in jeans, you won't be able to dance to your full potential for the same reason. Here's a small example: a dancer came to class in tight pants and couldn't do the splits, so she thought, 'Why would I ruin my favorite pants? I'll give it my all tomorrow.' Tomorrow comes, and the same thing happens. Over time, the person simply becomes too lazy to dance at full power.
To avoid this, opt for leggings or loose athletic pants. You can also wear shorts or capris. Odd as it may sound, your choice should depend on the temperature in the dance studio. You should never feel hot.
For the upper body, a regular T-shirt or tank top works. Girls can also wear a crop top, and guys can dance bare-chested, but only if your partner doesn't mind.
However, when choosing training clothes, also consider that reggaeton is a fairly provocative dance, and stage outfits should match. So it's better to get used to semi-nudity during practice so that you won't feel as shy during an important performance in front of a large audience.
For training shoes, again choose something comfortable and soft. For girls, light ballet flats or sneakers are great; guys usually prefer trainers or dance barefoot. Girls should not wear heels to practice, as constant spinal strain can cause serious harm to the body.
For parties and discos, choose brighter and more provocative items. A girl can wear short shorts or tight leggings, as long as they are comfortable and highlight figure assets while hiding flaws. On top, wear something form-fitting. A great addition to any reggaeton dancer's outfit is a bare midriff, provided she is not overweight.
Shoes should still be flat, but with a slight heel lift. They must fit properly; the foot should not slide around.
Male reggaeton dancers also prefer form-fitting clothing. This could be a shirt or t-shirt that nicely accentuates the physique. Pants should be straight-cut, not tight.
Both girls and guys can embellish their outfits with rhinestones or other decorative elements. The main thing is that it looks good.
If it's a partner dance, the costumes should complement each other and look harmonious.
