How to Choose Clothing and Footwear for Flexing
Flexing is a dynamic dance requiring unusual movements of the arms and legs. Forget heels for girls and tight jeans for guys. Stick to loose street style.
Flexing is a dynamic dance that involves unusual movements of the arms and legs. So ladies, forget about heels, and guys, skip the skinny jeans. If you don't want to ruin your clothes or even injure a limb, it's best to stick to a loose street style.
Remember, this is a street dance, so your outfit should reflect that urban vibe.
For girls, short crop tops work well—preferably sporty ones. First, they have no sleeves, so arm movements are unrestricted. Second, they don't restrict your torso, allowing free body movement. Sporty tops provide good support without constricting your chest, keeping you comfortable and at ease. Loose t-shirts are also a great option.
Loose athletic pants—preferably wide-leg or baggy—are ideal for this dance, as are shorts. Leggings work too, since they're made of stretchy fabric.
Footwear should be heel-free unless you want to break your ankles. Go for sneakers with soft soles. The key is that the material is breathable—leather or synthetic leather works. Your feet shouldn't sweat or feel uncomfortable during practice. Take your sneaker choice seriously.
Forget about accessories—especially bracelets, long earrings, and chains. Tie your hair back so it doesn't get in the way.
No strict rules on color. Pick any t-shirt color you like—you can go bold or keep it understated.
Guys should also opt for loose clothing. You might see videos of people flexing in button-down shirts, but those are experienced dancers. As a beginner, stick to sportswear. Loose, oversized t-shirts—or even going shirtless, if you're comfortable with that.
For your feet, invest in good sneakers—not fabric ones, because they have terrible airflow. Mesh sneakers are a great option.
Avoid jeans, as they make training difficult. Choose athletic pants or shorts. It's also not recommended to wear accessories like watches during practice.
Comfort is key. If you notice during practice that a fabric irritates your skin or feels unpleasant, skip it. You need to be able to perform all moves without restriction. Some materials are too constricting, so it's best to avoid them.
For performances, go for bright clothing. Neon tops or any bold colors will make you stand out on stage. Fast movements against a vibrant backdrop add extra dynamism. You need to stand out not just with your dance but also with your outfit.
Many underestimate the importance of dancewear, but that's a mistake—it completes your look and enhances your performance.
Flexing is a dance that demands serious preparation. You need to train hard to master it, and that requires comfortable clothing that won't make you dread extra practice sessions. When a dancer feels comfortable, their training is more productive.
