The History of Electro Dance: From Clubs to Global Phenomenon
Electro dance is one of the youngest dance styles, originating in the early 2000s in Belgium and France, quickly becoming a global club phenomenon known for its energetic moves.
Electro dance is one of the youngest dance styles, born in the early 2000s. It's a form of dance that fully reflects the inner mood, style, emotions, and inner world of the dancers.
Many remember when Electro dance first emerged. It's mainly danced in clubs and at discos. In the early 2000s, it was hard to go to a club without seeing people dancing Electro dance.
Many call it Tecktonik, though debate still rages about whether they are different. Tecktonik is a brand that produces sweatshirts, t-shirts, and more, while the dance is called Electro dance. So many dancers insist on the latter name, seeing a huge difference.
The dance originated in Belgium at the start of this century.
In clubs and at parties, new music was playing, and young people experimented with new moves to stand out.
In 2000, France debuted a new dance and music style. It immediately won the hearts of young people who wanted to dance differently from everyone else.
That party was memorable; many talked about it, and the club "Metropolis" quickly became popular among youth. Regularly, huge crowds gathered there to learn new dance moves.
After a while, another French nightclub started playing Belgian music constantly and hosting parties called "Tecktonik Killer". Visitors loved both the music and the new moves, so the club attracted about eight thousand people.
The best DJs from around the world helped spread the new dance. Soon, other clubs followed the trend, and in a short time, such parties became the most popular in Paris.
But the wider audience first got to know the new dance style only in 2007 at a festival. From then on, Electro dance became popular not only in France but also worldwide.
The media actively wrote about it, people constantly talked about it and learned the moves to stay on trend. Famous creators of Electro dance music also contributed to its spread.
The art director of "Metropolis" wanted to lock in this success quickly, so he rushed to register the trademark "Tecktonik". Since then, Belgian music and the new dance style were called only Tecktonik, which naturally caused a negative reaction from many dancers. In protest, they took to the streets and danced the dance, spreading it in their own way.
However, the popularity didn't last long. The peak was from 2006 to 2007, but by 2008 things were declining.
Electro dance has several substyles:
— Tecktonik;
— Tecktonik Killer;
— Hardstyle;
— Tecktonik Mix;
— New Electro Style.
All these styles fall into two broad groups: hard styles, where dancers need excellent physical fitness to perform complex, rough moves; and soft styles, which focus on arm and leg movements, don't require great physical conditioning, and are less harsh. Many people learned the soft style quickly.
Electro dance is a new style that was hugely popular in 2007. Young people around the world danced it, filmed themselves, and posted videos online to share with others.
