Choosing Outfits for Waacking: Style Tips
Waacking always draws attention with its sharp movements, model-like walk, and flexible dancers. Learn how to pick the perfect clothing for training and performances.
Waacking has always attracted human eyes. Sharp movements, model-like walk, flexible dancers! So much power in their moves! Of course, when you watch it, you want to start dancing along.
Waacking has created a true independent direction of street culture. This relatively young style has managed to impress and captivate the whole world. It has become not just a dance but a lifestyle for many, bringing its own fashion and recognizable flair.
Today, we’ll talk about clothing for this dance.
First, this style positions itself as street dance. That means it welcomes any comfortable clothing in which you feel free enough.
During the dance, huge attention is given to the arms (hence the original English name “waacking,” which means “to swing arms”). You should not choose anything for classes or performances that restricts you in the shoulders, shoulder blades, wrists, elbows, etc. Arms must be free, flexible, and all movements visible.
The top shouldn’t be too loose either—at least during rehearsals. This helps you understand where to direct your torso and whether you’re doing everything 100% correctly. Watching your body movements during training is very important; it builds character, strength, and precision.
The bottom is almost the same. For rehearsals, it’s recommended to choose not-too-wide items so they don’t hinder you and allow you to evaluate your leg work for later adjustments.
Of course, options for public performances can be absolutely anything. Waacking is a street style, so street fashion defines it. Wide or very tight clothes, bright or classic colors, glitter or none—all this opens huge possibilities for your designer creativity. This style welcomes the boldest fashion choices.
As for shoes, it’s better to choose something with a hard sole, like sneakers or canvas shoes. This protects your feet when performing certain dance elements. Lack of proper footwear can be dangerous in some cases.
I think many of you have seen this dance performed in high heels. Yes, that’s an option too. But for a beginner, such a choice is probably not right. It’s much easier to first learn complex combinations in comfortable shoes, then gradually increase the difficulty.
