How to Choose the Right Clothing for Body Ballet Classes
Body ballet blends pilates, yoga, and ballet. Choose form-fitting, stretchy clothes to see your lines and move freely. No pointe shoes – go barefoot or in socks. Ideal for all fitness levels.
Ballet often brings to mind graceful tutus, dazzling costumes, and elegant pointe shoes. However, body ballet is a different story. If you've just heard about this trend and want to try it, understand that it has little to do with traditional dance.
People have long been blending various dance and exercise styles with ballet. This has given rise not only to body ballet—which combines pilates, yoga, and ballet—but also to yoga-ballet. When mixing something with ballet, the focus is primarily on ballet-inspired exercises that strengthen muscles. During these movements, you need more than just comfortable clothing.
First and foremost, choose attire that highlights your shape and body curves. This isn't just for aesthetics; it's so you can fully observe and control your body. Posture, lower back arch, and knee alignment won't be visible under loose, baggy clothes. Opt for something that's both comfortable and form-fitting, allowing free movement. It doesn't have to be a ballet leotard; you can wear your favorite leggings with a top or a slightly fitted t-shirt.
Stretching is a key component of body ballet. Therefore, your clothing should never restrict movement. The best choice is a stretchy sports outfit that won't rip at the seams when you attempt a split.
Pointe shoes aren't needed either, as this is a modern style. It's best to practice in socks or barefoot. You can also use specialized ballet flats or half-pointes, but that's up to you—the main thing is your comfort. This approach allows you to feel your feet and point them freely, which is difficult in hard shoes like sneakers or trainers.
Body ballet is perfect for those who haven't exercised in a while or are new to regular physical activity. It develops both body and spirit, helping you achieve that famous ballet posture, strengthen your body, and stay fit without intense strain.
